Lisa Przystup and her husband bought their 19th century farmhouse in the town of Delhi, in the Delaware County part of Western Catskills, as a respite from the the hustle and bustle of their working week in NYC. “We were looking for an escape from noisy 3am garbage pickups, packed subway cars, and poorly sound-proofed apartment buildings and the Catskills has always been our happy place.” Over the last few years, while slowly remodeling their home, these are the places Lisa has discovered in the surrounding area. Here, her guide to where to eat, drink, stay and shop in the Catskills.

EAT, DRINK, STAY


Russels General Store is our go-to for everything from hardware, groceries and locally knitted blankets to breakfast sandwiches.

Hollow in Delhi is our new local for drinks and farm to table dinners. Come for the speakeasy style cocktails, stay for the killer Pot de Creme.

Table on Ten is a rustic restaurant in the tiny town of Bloomville. Run by former Dutch model, Inez Valk-Kempthorne, and her woodworker husband, Justus, this is the spot where the locals gather for foraging workshops, community dinners and incredible the wood-fired pizza.

If you feel like staying for while you can also rent out one of their rooms or the self contained studio located on a twenty-three-acre hillside overlooking the Catskill Mountains.

Brushland Eating House in Bovina was named one of the best restaurants in the world by Conde Nast Traveler. Run by husband-and-wife team Sohail and Sara Zandi, the menu features classic dishes meant to conjure memories of relatives or childhood, that favorite cast iron pan or the smell of a warm, bustling kitchen.

Brushland also has four properties they rent out to guests including The Owl’s Nest: a cozy cabin perched atop Bramley Mountain above Bovina with open cathedral ceilings and a wood-burning stove.
